1. Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the browser extension YouTube Search History Hider (“the Extension”, “we”, “our”) handles data when you use it.
1.1 Single Purpose
The Extension has a single purpose: it hides YouTube search-history suggestion items shown in the search dropdown, so your past searches do not appear when you click the search bar.
1.2 Not Affiliated
The Extension is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube or Google.
2. Data We Collect
2.1 Data You Provide
We do not ask you to provide any personal information (such as name, email, phone number, or account details).
2.2 Data Collected Automatically
The Extension does not collect or transmit:
- (a) your search history, search queries, or watch history
- (b) your browsing activity outside of YouTube
- (c) cookies, authentication tokens, or account credentials
- (d) analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking data
2.3 Local Storage (Extension Settings)
The Extension uses Chrome’s storage to save only a simple preference:
- (a) whether the Extension is enabled or disabled
This setting is stored locally in your browser so the Extension can remember your choice across browser restarts.
3. How We Use Data
3.1 Providing the Feature
We use the stored enable/disable setting only to determine whether the Extension should hide search-history suggestion elements on YouTube pages.
3.2 No Other Use
We do not use any data for advertising, profiling, tracking, or monetization.
4. Permissions and Why They Are Needed
4.1 Website Access (https://www.youtube.com/*)
This access is required so the Extension can run on YouTube pages and hide specific UI elements inside the search dropdown. The Extension only modifies what is displayed on the page. It does not copy, store, or transmit your page content or search history.
4.2 Storage
This is required to remember your enable/disable preference locally.
5. Sharing of Data
We do not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties. The Extension makes no external network requests and does not send data to any server.
6. Data Retention
The enable/disable setting remains stored in your browser until you change it or remove the Extension. Uninstalling the Extension removes its local stored settings.
7. Security
Because the Extension does not transmit user data to servers, there is no server-side storage of user data by us. We aim to follow data minimization and only keep what is needed to provide the single purpose feature.
8. Your Choices
You can control the Extension at any time:
- (a) Disable or enable it from the extension popup
- (b) Remove it from Chrome to stop all functionality and clear its stored setting
9. Children’s Privacy
The Extension is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
